The Wearable Garden
Kathleen Lang Metaxas had spent most of her artistic career focused in printmaking, papermaking and book arts. Most of the artist's explorations employed low and non-toxic methods. She discovered Eco-Printing while teaching a kids camp at the Arts Council of Princeton. Eco-printing allowed her to continue her investigation in printmaking methods creating monotype style prints on the garments. However instead of using ink, she forces the dyes from actual plant material that she collects into the fabric. This results in not only beautiful soothing colors and shapes on scarves that she had creates, but results in no toxic waste of any kind. Her business Organic Imprints Studio home of The Wearable Garden is a non-toxic creative space focused on sustainable business practices. Her company strives for the Triple Bottom Line concept of sustainability.
